Christina Maraboutaki

Christina Maraboutaki is a PhD  student at the Sapienza University of Rome and an attorney-at-law, member of the Athens Bar Association. 

She holds an MA in ‘Political Science and Sociology’ from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MSc in ‘Gender, Sexuality and Society’ from the Birkbeck University of London. 

During her masters, Christina conducted a research on the sexual offences of the Greek Criminal Code, aiming to explore how the legal subjects and their interactions are depicted in law and, more precisely, how gender and sexuality are hierarchically organised in the legal framework.

Her current research interests have shifted towards the post-human critical theory and the analytical tools that this theory has to offer to gender studies. 

In her ongoing research, she examines the sex industry’s appropriation of robotics and artificial intelligence technology, as in the cases of VR Pornography and AI Sex Robots, in order to investigate how the notions of gender, sexuality and subjectivity are being reconstructed within a highly digitalised and technologically mediated but fully interactive context.
